Versus
Virtual Reality Laser Tag
Role: Lead Designer
Tasks: Level Design, Gameplay Design, Marketing, Prototyping, Playtesting
Versus started as an independent study during my final year in the Computation Arts program at Concordia University. I researched future virtual reality hardware to determine something fun that could be done with it. I designed a virtual reality version of laser tag to be built for the Oculus Quest. Later that year I began an internship at Phenomena in Montreal, where I worked on various projects and prototypes. I pitched them my idea and we built it together, launching the game in December of 2019. I am very proud of the final product being something I would actually want to play again and again. How Versus Came to be
Versus started as an independent study during my final year in Concordia's Computation Arts program. It was the result of 3 semesters of work. In the first semester I researched VR movement, physics, and graphics in order to determine which platform to build for, and how to structure the game to be successful. In the second semester I built a basic prototype that demonstrated that the game was in fact, fun to play. In the third semester I worked in collaboration with my internship's company Phenomena, to build the final version of the game. This resulted in Versus becoming a full fledged commercial game. Here are the research papers and independent study reports.
